Version 0 of 1.

A man who admitted raping a teenage girl who went to his South Ayrshire home after a row with her grandmother has been jailed for six years.

Keith Robertson, 32, attacked his 14-year-old victim at his house in Ayr on 1 September last year.

He was arrested after the teenager, who had repeatedly asked him to stop, fled the house and told a friend.

Jailing Robertson at the High Court in Edinburgh, judge Lord Turnbull told him he had admitted an "appalling crime".

The judge said a victim impact statement prepared by the teenager made "very sad reading indeed".

He told Robertson that he hoped he had the chance to consider its terms and to reflect on the impact which he has had on the victim's teenage years.

No remorse

The judge said he did not accept that Robertson had shown the slightest remorse for his conduct.

He pointed out that the sex offender had waited until there was unchallengeable scientific proof of his guilt before offering to plead guilty to the offence.

A previous hearing at the High Court in Glasgow was told how the girl initially sat chatting with Robertson before saying she wanted to go to sleep.

However, Robertson said he was "not ready for bed" and instead asked the teenager for a cuddle.

The schoolgirl agreed before Robertson, who was wearing just his boxer shorts, grabbed her causing her to be wedged into the couch.

Prosecutor Murdoch MacTaggart said Robertson then raped the 14-year-old, who repeatedly told him to stop.

The girl's ordeal eventually ended and she fled the property before texting a friend to say what had happened.

Police were called and Robertson was detained.

He told officers: "I am not happy with it - not at all. Never happened."

Robertson's lawyer later said in court that he claimed to have "no recollection whatsoever of the offence" but pleaded guilty to save the girl from having to give evidence.

The court also heard that the young victim has been attending a mental health service for children who have been abused.
