The first phase of ticket selling for next year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow closed at 18:00 on Monday. More than 2.3 million requests have been made for for up to one million Commonwealth Games tickets.

Applicants will hear if they have been successful in the first week of October. "The first medal of Glasgow 2014 should go to members of the public for their fantastic support for the 4,500 athletes who will be coming here to compete," he said.
Work will now begin to process the applications.
Mr Speer added: "The system has worked well and has coped with the sometimes extremely high demand and we would like to thank our official ticketing services provider Ticketmaster for ensuring the process ran smoothly."
