The Netherlands: Greenpeace Activists Gain an Ally
Version 0 of 1. Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans said Friday that the Netherlands intended to press a case against Russia in the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea for seizing a Greenpeace International ship, the Arctic Sunrise, which was sailing under a Dutch flag. Russian prosecutors this week filed piracy charges against all 28 members of the crew and 2 freelance journalists. The Dutch government called the detentions unlawful. Greenpeace issued a statement praising the decision as an important symbol of support for its activists, who are being held in a jail in the Arctic Ocean port city of Murmansk. |
