Five people have been injured in a head-on crash on the M4 in south Wales, amid reports a vehicle was driven the wrong way on the motorway. One person has died and four others have been injured, one seriously, in a head-on crash on the M4 in south Wales after a car drove the wrong direction.
The M4 was closed in both directions between junctions 40 and 41 at Port Talbot. An eye-witness told BBC News how she had to pull into the inside lane when she saw a "battered Ford Escort" heading toward her in the outside lane.
It comes 12 days after five people died in another head-on M4 crash about 40 miles away, when a car was driven the wrong way near Newport. It brought traffic chaos, with the motorway shut both ways at Port Talbot.

Crews are attending to five casualties, with three en route to Morriston Hospital in Swansea. The eye-witness, a 23-year-old women, was driving from Carmarthen to Cardiff when she saw the car heading towards her.
The incident happened after one vehicle went on to the motorway after driving along an exit road. The woman, who did not want to be identified, said: "All the cars in front of me, and myself, pulled into the slow lane at the same time.
"I couldn't see his face very clearly, but I'm guessing he was in his late 20s or early 30s.
"He wasn't driving erratically, he was driving in a straight line, with a purpose.

South Wales Police were alerted to the latest incident at 1650 BST, as Wales were playing Fiji in the Rugby World Cup.
"It was just lucky it was match time because [the road] was pretty empty, thank God."

In the earlier crash, in the early hours of Monday, 17 September, an elderly couple in one car died when another car containing four young men hit them head-on. The westbound side of the M4 was reopened at 1850 BST.
Three of the men in the car died. It was travelling on the wrong side of the motorway after it had earlier been pursued by police.
