http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/22/world/asia/india-2-charged-in-school-poisoning.html Version 0 of 1. The police charged a school principal and her husband with murder on Monday over the deaths of 23 children who were poisoned by a meal that was contaminated with pesticide. The children, 4 to 12 years old, fell ill after eating the lunch cooked at their primary school in Bihar State on July 16. The principal, Meena Devi, also known as Meena Kumari, and her husband, Arjun Rai, face at least five charges, including murder and attempted murder, said the police superintendent in the Saran district, Varun Kumar Sinha. Tests confirmed that the cooking oil used to prepare the meal was contaminated with pesticide. The principal bought the cooking oil from a store owned by her husband, who might have kept it in a container once filled with pesticide, the police said. |
