A search for a swimmer who went missing off Brighton beach was due to resume at first light. No further searches will be made for a missing man heard shouting for help from the sea unless fresh sightings of him are made, coastguards have said.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesman said the area was being monitored overnight and another search would be made at first light. Some clothes were found on the beach although it was unclear whether they were connected to the missing person, Sussex Police said.
David Williams, Solent Coastguard watch manager, said: "The lifeboat and helicopter were on scene really quickly this afternoon and everyone involved did everything they could to find this person. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) initially said the search would resume at first light.
"There will be a watch on the area where he was last seen overnight but this is increasingly looking like a tragic accident." But a spokesman said it was now a missing person inquiry being handled by police.
"If we receive any additional information or any fresh sightings then the search will resume," he said.
