Arrest made in dog walker murder Arrest after dog walker murder
(about 2 hours later)
A man of around 18 has been arrested by police investigating the murder of a 24-year-old woman out walking her dog in Carmarthenshire. A 16-year-old is being questioned about the murder of a 24-year-old trainee hairdresser attacked while she was walking her dog.
The body, found in woodland just off a bridle path near Ammanford, has now been formally identified as Kelly Hyde, who was reported missing on Thursday. Detectives said the youth was arrested early on Tuesday after the body of Kelly Hyde was found in woodland near Ammanford on Sunday.
Her body was found on Sunday. She had suffered serious head injuries. She was reported missing last Thursday after taking her car for a service and then walking her dog.
On Tuesday police had sealed off a house 100 yards from entrance to the bridle path where her body was found. Police are looking for a weapon used to inflict serious head injuries.
The house, on Mill Terrace in the Pantyffynnon area of Ammanford, is being guarded by a policewoman. Ms Hyde's body was found near a bridle path after a search involving police officers, a helicopter and mountain rescue teams.
The trainee hairdresser, who worked in Llanelli, had left her car at a garage at Tycroes in Carmarthenshire early on Thursday morning. It is then thought she went to take her dog for a walk.
But she did not arrive home and was reported missing the same night by her housemates.

Ms Hyde disappeared while walking with her dog after dropping off her car for repairs at the Brynteg Garage, Tycroes, last Thursday morning. On Friday, her black and tan dog Scrappy was found wandering in the area of the woodland in which Ms Hyde's body was found two days later.
Det Supt Simon Powell, who is the senior investigating officer, said her dog was found wandering the area on Friday morning close to where her body was found on Sunday. Supt Alun Harries from Dyfed-Powys Police read a statement from Ms Hyde's family at a police news conference on Tuesday in which they paid tribute to a "much loved daughter, sister, sister-in-law and aunt, and will be sorely missed".
Ms Hyde was a trainee hairdresser who worked in Hair Express in Llanelli town centre. "She was a wonderful, warm, sensitive and creative girl with a vibrant personality who was a lover of life and made every effort to live life to the full," the statement said.
She finished a hairdressing course at Coleg Sir Gar in Llanelli in 2006 Although not born in Wales, the family said, Ms Hyde had moved to the area when she was a baby, had been educated there, and spoke Welsh.
Reassure community The path leading to woodland where Kelly Hyde's body was found
Det Supt Powell said her dog was found wandering the area on Friday morning close to where her body was found. They described her interest in music "particularly Led Zeppelin and dancing, indeed she had trouble sitting still".
An incident room has been set up at Ammanford police station and extra officers have been drafted into the town to reassure the community. The statement said Ms Hyde was also keen on ponies, having ridden competitively for Llandeilo Pony Club.
"We are in a state of shock," he said. "Through her housemate, Gemma, she'd met her boyfriend Edmund, a drummer in a local rock band. She was full of optimism, more prevalent since she'd met Edmund.
"We hear of these things happening in other places but when it happens in your own backyard obviously people are very concerned. "There are no words that can describe our sense of loss at this time," the family added.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen Kelly in the Tycroes area on Thursday to contact them at the incident room on 01267 221212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Anyone with information should contact the incident room on 01267 221212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
