When he cut off the tag, imposed under the terms of a terrorism prevention investigation measure (TPim) order, it issued a "tamper-alert" to its makers, private security firm G4S. The case, which he began before his disappearance, involved a human rights claim against the Foreign Office, the Home Office, the Ministry of Defence and the Attorney General.
The claim was initially anonymous, but that was lifted on Thursday following his disappearance.
