Man pleads not guilty to PC Keith Blakelock's murder

A man accused of killing PC Keith Blakelock during the Broadwater Farm riots in 1985 has pleaded not guilty to murder at the Old Bailey.

The 40-year-old Metropolitan Police officer was stabbed as he tried to protect firefighters during unrest in Tottenham, north London.

The officer and his colleague, PC Richard Coombes, were attacked on 6 October 1985.

Nicholas Jacobs, 45, of Hackney, will face a trial on in March 2014.

He was charged with murder in July.

The disorder was sparked by the death of Cynthia Jarrett, who collapsed and died during a police raid on her home.
