Version 0 of 1.

Police have made their 80th arrest in Operation Elveden, the investigation into inappropriate payments by newspapers to public officials.

A 28-year-old man was detained in Merseyside and bailed on Wednesday night, the police said.

He works for a healthcare trust and was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.

He has been bailed to return pending further inquiries to a date in January 2014.

He was the second person to be arrested by Elveden officers this week. On Tuesday a 33-year-old serving police officer was detained for questioning in Essex.

The woman, who works in the Metropolitan police central communications command, was taken to an east London police station.

Operation Elveden was launched in July 2011 as a result of documents being handed to the police by News International, publisher of the Sun, the now-closed News of the World, the Times and the Sunday Times.

Forty-one of those arrested have been charged including journalists, prison officers, army personnel, police and healthcare workers.
