Police have blocked off a main road in a Carmarthenshire town as they deal with an ongoing incident. A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after an incident in a Carmarthenshire town during which police blocked off a main road.
Residents of Ammanford have reported increased police activity, including a police helicopter in the Pen-y-Banc area. Dyfed Powys Police said reports of an assault in Ammanford were received at 08:55 GMT on Saturday.
The main A483 has been closed in both directions between the New Road junction and the Gelliwriddon junction. The force added a woman had been taken to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen for treatment to injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
Dyfed-Powys Police have not confirmed any details of the incident. Local people had reported seeing armed police in the town.
The main A483 was closed in both directions between the New Road junction and the Gelliwriddon junction during the police operation.
"There was minimal disruption following a road closure in the area to effectively deal with the incident," a police spokesperson added.
