Policeman critically injured by stolen car in Reading

The officer was on foot at the time of the crash at about 17:30 GMT on Saturday on Lower Earley Way West in Whitley. His colleague was unharmed. Thames Valley Police said the car, a black Mazda Aerosport with registration number KB07 LBV, failed to stop. It was later recovered in Corrine Close, Whitley, officers are still trying to find the driver. The car was stolen during a burglary in Sonning Common on 21 November. A police spokesman said the injured officer remained in hospital with critical injuries. Assistant Chief Constable John Campbell said: "Our thoughts are with the injured officer and his family at this time." He urged anyone who saw the burglary or who saw the Mazda in the Reading or Sonning Common area between 21 November and Saturday to contact police. Some roads in Whitley were shut while investigations took place. |
