MPs in Highlands to gather evidence on land reform
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-25183669 Version 0 of 1. The Scottish Affairs Committee is in the Highlands to gather evidence ahead of an inquiry next year into land reform in Scotland. The MPs will be in Inverness until Tuesday. In March, the committee published a critical report on the Crown Estate, which controls half of Scotland's coast and almost all of its seabed. The Crown Estate went on to announce reforms, including giving away some fishing rights and releasing land. The committee will gather evidence from bodies such as Community Land Scotland, an organisation representing community land owners. Separate from the MPs' work, a Scottish government-commissioned organisation is looking at land reform. The Land Reform Review Group is examining how it could be made easier for communities in rural and urban areas to buy land. |
