A man has appeared in court charged with the murders of a woman and her daughter who were killed by blows to their heads.

The bodies of Sharon Hayter, 55, and Stephanie Owen, 29, were found at a property in Home Farm Road, Knowsley Village, on Thursday.

William Owen, 55, of Home Farm Road, Knowsley Village, was remanded at Liverpool Magistrates' Court.

Mr Owen will appear before the city's crown court on 16 December.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of both deaths was blunt force trauma to the head.

Relatives have paid tribute to the "devoted" mother, who taught information technology to children with learning difficulties as a volunteer, and "loving" daughter.
