Britain’s new envoy to Tehran will travel to Iran on Tuesday, the first diplomatic visit by a British official since Britain’s embassy in Tehran was stormed more than two years ago. The visit of the envoy, Ajay Sharma, who has the rank of a nonresident chargé d’affaires, was announced by his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Habibollah-Zadeh, to the official news agency IRNA. Foreign Secretary William Hague confirmed the report in a Twitter message, adding, “We’ll improve U.K.-Iran ties on a step-by-step, reciprocal basis.” Mr. Habibollah-Zadeh said that Mr. Sharma’s visit would include a look at British diplomatic buildings and talks with Iranian Foreign Ministry officials, and that he would then make a similar visit to London.
