| Flynn was arrested after being spotted in Westfield Lane, Idle, in nearby Bradford, at about 04:10 BST the following day. | |
| Julian Briggs, from the Crown Prosecution Service said: "This defendant is responsible for two vicious and unprovoked attacks; one on Louisa Denby, his 84-year-old grandmother with whom he lived, and a subsequent knife attack on a nine-year-old boy. | |
| "Tragically, Louisa Denby was killed. The boy suffered life-threatening injuries which required emergency surgery and for which he is still receiving treatment. | |
| "It has not been possible to establish what drove Flynn to commit these awful crimes. | |
| "He has now admitted his responsibility and pleaded guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder. | |
| "We hope this brings some measure of comfort to the families of both victims. Our thoughts remain with them, as they have been throughout." | |
| Flynn was also charged assault and possession of a bladed article but those charges were dropped. |
