Police were called to reports that a man had been assaulted at the house on Paton Close, West Kirby, at 21:40 GMT on Tuesday. Jonathan Britton was attacked at his house in Paton Close, West Kirby, at 21:40 GMT on Tuesday, police said.
Officers found a man in his 40s suffering stab injuries. He was taken to hospital but died a short time later. The 43-year-old was taken to hospital but died a short time later. A post-mortem examination is being carried out to establish the cause of his death.

Det Insp Mark Tivendale said: "This has been a terrible incident for the family of Mr Britton. They are understandably devastated.
"This attack happened in a very quiet residential area of West Kirby," he added.
