Displayed from July to September, the 1,300-year-old manuscripts attracted about 100,000 visitors from nearly 60 countries. These benefitted hundreds of businesses in the city and around the region. A report by organisers described the exhibition as an event with "global reach, unprecedented approval rating, and significant economic value". Durham City Chamber of Trade said in a statement: "The passion and enthusiasm for the gospels enveloped the whole of the city. "This is reflected in the extremely positive feedback we have received from many of the businesses who reported a significant upturn in trade over the summer." |
