Algeria: Army Kills a Militant Leader, Official Says
Version 0 of 1. An attack by Algerian Army helicopters killed a militant identified by some experts as a regional leader of Al Qaeda and four of his associates as they sped through the southern Algerian desert, a local official said Thursday. The militant, Khalil Ould Addah, also known as Abu Bassen, and his associates were killed as they traveled through Tamanrasset Province, north of the town of Ain Salah, the official said. The Arabic-language newspaper Al Khabar said that the attack happened Wednesday, and that the militants had come from northern Mali and were heading to a meeting of top Qaeda leaders in North Africa. |
