An RAF helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing in the West Bank on Sunday following an engine malfunction.

The chopper touched down in the Jordan Valley, part of the West Bank largely under Israeli control. A spokeswoman for the Israeli Defence Forces said they were "securing the scene". There had been no injuries among those on board nor on the ground, she added.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence in London said: "We can confirm that an RAF helicopter has made a precautionary landing in the West Bank in the course of a flight following a routine exercise. The crew are safe and well."

The helicopter was believed to be en route from Jordan to Cyprus when it developed technical difficulties.
