The Foreign Office said it was urgently looking into reports that a number of British travellers had escaped the attack near Mombasa after the grenade failed to explode. According to Sky News, Mombasa police chief Robert Kitur said the grenade was detonated safely by experts. "We are investigating the incident and looking for the man who threw the grenade at the tourists and fled." A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We're urgently looking into it at the moment." According to a Kenyan newspaper, two tourists escaped the attack after the grenade was thrown at their vehicle near Likoni, an area in Mombasa county. The driver is reported to have contacted police, who cordoned off the area before detonating the grenade.
