President Hassan Sheik Mohamud on Thursday nominated a Somali-Canadian as the country’s new prime minister after the previous prime minister, Abdi Farah Shirdon, was removed by Parliament in a no-confidence vote. The nominee, Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed, has a background in economics and development work around the world. He will have to be endorsed by Parliament before taking office. |
