Firefighters tackle big garage fire at Pill, Newport | |

More firefighters are being called in to tackle a large fire at the site of a commercial garage in Newport. | |
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to Coomassie Street in the Pill area just after 06:00 GMT on Friday. | |
The building is "well alight" and the fire service said the first 999 call reported flames through the roof. | |
A "water curtain" is being used to protect buildings nearby with 46 firefighters on the scene and more personnel being called in. | |
Crews from Duffryn, Maindee, Malpas, Cwmbran, Aberdare and Caerphilly are attending the two-storey building fire with firefighters from Roath, Barry and Cardiff Central stations. | |
There are six pumps at the scene, two hydraulic platforms and two water bowsers with 42 firefighters and four officers. | |
Another two crew will arrive shortly which will bring the number to 48. |
