Bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious package found in a skip in Blackpool.

A number of people had to be evacuated from their homes and several roads were closed.

Police were alerted to the discovery in a skip on Dickies Lane shortly after 15:00 GMT on Friday.

Bomb disposal experts carried out an controlled explosion some four hours later. Lancashire Police say they have started a criminal investigation.
