The interim report (the final findings won't be out until 2015) sets out possible solutions to the UK's need for more capacity - but what exactly does that need look like? 70 million passengers at Heathrow alone In 2012, Heathrow had 69,983,139 passengers travel through its terminals - representing 32% of all passengers at UK airports. Average delays of 14 minutes Heathrow has average delays of 14.36 minutes, surpassed only by Manchester. But we know that averages can be misleading - so we've also published a tool to help you compare the percentages of flights that are delayed. 2 runways Despite the vast amounts of traffic that Heathrow deals with, it only has 2 runways (Paris' Charles De Gaulle airport has fewer passengers but twice that). Gatwick and Stansted each have 1 runway. 1.4 million tonnes of freight Heathrow alone accounts for over half the freight dealt with by all UK airports. 99% capacity A London Assembly report earlier his year highlighted the stark contrast between London's airports.
