England's councils are bracing themselves for further possible spending cuts as they wait to find out their level of central government funding for the year. England's councils will face an average spending power cut of 2.9% in the year 2014-15, the government has announced.
Communities Secretary Eric Pickles will announce the figures to MPs later. Communities minister Brandon Lewis said this would allow a settlement "fair to all parts of the country" and called for more efforts to tackle waste.
He says the focus must be on reducing waste, but many local authorities are warning of cuts to services. It would allow an average of £2,089 per household during the year, he told MPs. But Labour said services would suffer.
