Thousands lose power as gales hit UK Sailor search resumes after gales batter UK

Thousands of homes are without power as gale-force winds and rain batter the western UK. A search is resuming for a sailor who fell from a small cargo ship off North Lincolnshire as winds gusting up to 90mph battered parts of the UK.
Around 1,250 homes in Cumbria and Lancashire and some 1,000 in Northern Ireland are without electricity. Attempts to find the man, who was on a ship moored on the River Trent, were called off in "very poor" conditions.
A search for a sailor who fell overboard from a small cargo ship off North Lincolnshire was called off in "very poor" conditions. Electricity was restored overnight in thousands of homes in parts of the UK.
