Three men died after drinking heavily at a Christmas party and apparently passing out in a sauna, German prosecutors have said.

The metal workers, who were colleagues aged between 36 and 48, were found dead in the sauna at the oldest man's home in the western town of Ennepetal on 8 December.

Prosecutors in Hagen said on Friday that tests had found the men's blood alcohol levels were more than four times the legal drink-drive limit.

They say they believe the three men passed out in the sauna and then died of heart failure an undetermined time later. Prosecutors said there was no evidence of foul play.
