A former Bradford City footballer who admitted his part in an armed robbery at a post office has been jailed.

Former player Lewis Emanuel, 30, and accomplice Craig Ward, 26, wore balaclavas during the robbery in Skelmanthorpe, West Yorkshire, in May.

Staff were ordered to hand over cash to the men, who then got away in a car.

Emanuel, of Lowfield Close, Bradford, and Ward, of Lindale Road, Bradford, were both sentenced to eight years in prison at Hull Crown Court.

Emanuel played for Bradford City between 2001 and 2006. He went on to play for Luton Town and Brentford.

He pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of an imitation firearm in September. Ward pleaded guilty to robbery at the same hearing.

Kirsty Emanuel, 28, also of Lowfield Close, pleaded guilty to possession of criminal property in November.

She was sentenced to nine months in jail, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
