Version 0 of 1.

Ukrainian authorities on Thursday said they had detained a third man in connection with the brutal beating of an antigovernment activist and had increased the severity of potential charges in the case after initially deeming it a matter of “hooliganism.” The authorities also said that they were questioning three members of Parliament, though their connection to the case was unclear. The activist, Tetyana Chornovol, 34, was severely beaten Wednesday by men who forced her car off the road. Partly as a result of her description of the attack, the authorities said, the suspects now face possible charges of inflicting serious bodily harm. Ms. Chornovol, who is also a journalist, remained hospitalized on Thursday as hundreds of people marched on the Ministry of Interior Affairs and demanded the resignation of the minister, Vitaly Zakharchenko.
