Armed police surround siege flat in Burnley as woman held

Armed officers are surrounding a flat in Burnley where a woman is being held against her will by a man armed with a knife, Lancashire Police said.

A negotiator has been sent to the flat in Escott Gardens, Duke Bar, where the siege began at 16:30 GMT on Monday.

A force spokeswoman said the 20-year-old man inside the property was preventing the woman from leaving.

She said: "The incident in Burnley is still ongoing, we still have a negotiator at the scene."

The negotiator is in dialogue with the man inside the property, she added.

The woman inside is physically unharmed and it is believed to be a domestic-related incident, said the spokeswoman.
