Bircotes shootings: Dead man named as Paul White

A man thought to have shot himself dead who also seriously injured his partner has been identified by police as Paul White.

Two children were in the house in Bircotes, Nottinghamshire, when Mr White, 37, and the woman were shot.

Mr White's body was found in the home in Galway Road just before 01:00 GMT on Friday.

Nottinghamshire Police said, following an investigation, detectives are "satisfied the woman was the victim".

Det Insp Ash Wilson, who is leading the investigation, said: "This incident has left the families of the people involved devastated.

"Specially-trained officers are supporting both families at this time."

The woman, 33, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A post-mortem examination found that the man died of a gunshot injury, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
