Elderly woman critical after flat fire in west London

An elderly woman who suffered burns in a fire in a flat in west London is in a critical condition in hospital.

Witnesses said they heard explosions during the blaze in Edensor Gardens, Chiswick, on Tuesday afternoon.

London fire investigation officers remain at the scene of the fire at the five-bedroom flat on the ground floor of a three-storey block.

A fire service spokeswoman said a member of the public pulled the woman from the flat before crews arrived.

London Air Ambulance said the woman was being treated at Royal London Hospital for burns.

Two men were treated at the scene for the effects of smoke inhalation but did not go to hospital. There were no other injuries reported.
