Version 0 of 1.

As a nor’easter continues to plague the US east, many modes of transportation remain delayed and snarled.

While air travel remains a serious problem, roads and public transit are getting back up and running at an admirable pace. Here, we’ve rounded up air, public transportation, and driving conditions for two of the major metropolitan areas hit by the storm: New York and Boston. We’ll be updating throughout the day in case travel conditions change.

In the meantime, be sure to follow our live blog for immediate updates on storm conditions.

New York City and New York state

Follow Port Authority's Twitter account for updates on the status of airports, rail, and buses in the greater New York City area.

<strong>Travel by air</strong>

For all airports in the region – JFK, La Guardia, Newark, and Stewart International Airport – follow @NY_NJairports on Twitter.

There are currently no flights in or out of John F Kennedy International Airport, according to the airport’s website. Fliers are recommended to check with their individual airlines for an update on flight status. The terminals remain open. La Guardia and Newark airports are experiencing heavy delays.

FlightAware has a live list of cancelled flights across the country.

Flight operations suspended at JFK due to zero visibility and blowing snow on runways. Terminals open.

<strong>By road</strong>

New York’s Route I-87 is now open for commuters.

UPDATE: I-87 passenger ban lifted at 5AM; Commercial traffic ban remains in place until 8AM| http://t.co/sJqjA0lFjQ

The Long Island Expressway is now open to drivers, however, it’s probably going to be uglier than usual. Here is a traffic map.

<strong>NYC subway</strong>

The trains are up and running, although some lines are experiencing delays (the above-ground subway stations and tracks are vulnerable to the weather). For updates, follow the @MTA Twitter, or visit their website to check the latest status of each line. We also recommend those with smartphones to download the Embark NYC and MTA Subway Time apps for notifications of real-time train delays and arrivals.

The PATH train between New York and New Jersey is currently running. Follow the PATH Train Twitter for continuous updates. The Long Island Railroad (LIRR) is running on a Weekend schedule, and the MetroNorth railway is running on a Saturday schedule.

PATH is running. NWK-WTC: 10-minute schedule. JSQ-33: 10-minute schedule. HOB-33: Normal. HOB-WTC: Normal.

Boston and Massachusetts

Massachusetts got hit early yesterday with the snowstorm, but appears to be doing well this morning. The Boston Globe has a great list of resources for all Boston schools, utilities, travel and power issues throughout the city and state. Here are some travel specifics:

Keep an eye on MEMA for road, power, and weather conditions throughout the state.

<strong>By road</strong>

Roads are open, but dangerous. The state’s emergency management agency is urging caution to drivers, and yesterday governor Deval Patrick urged Massachusetts residents to utilize public transportation whenever possible.

Roads are snow covered and slippery. If you don't have to go out, stay home so that plows can continue to clear roads. #MAsnow

<strong>Boston, by train</strong>

For all Boston public transportation updates, visit the MBTA website.

You can also follow @MBTA on Twitter. Some subway, rail, and bus lines are running with delays.

#MBTA Red, Orange, Blue, & Green: Regular service resumed. Continue to be cautious, careful, & safe as some surfaces may be slippery #MAsnow

<strong>By bus</strong>

Many also travel to and from Boston and the surrounding area by coach bus. Two popular lines, Peter Pan and Megabus, have travel delay info on their website.

<strong>By air</strong>

Boston Logan Airport is open, but many flights are delayed. You can follow @BostonLogan on Twitter or visit their website for up-to-the-minute updates. Again, you should check with your individual airlines for the status of your flight, or use FlightAware to see real-time cancellations and delays.

The airport is open and people should check with their airline for flight information.
