A man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a woman during new year celebrations in Edinburgh. A man arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault during new year celebrations in Edinburgh has been released from custody pending further investigation.

Police had appealed for information and issued a description of a suspect. Police Scotland said a 25-year-old man had been charged and was expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said a 25-year-old man had been detained and charged. He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later. The Crown Office later said he did not appear.
A Crown Office spokesman said: "The procurator fiscal at Edinburgh received a report concerning a 25-year-old male in connection with an alleged incident on 1 January 2014.
"After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the report, the accused was liberated from custody pending further investigation and did not appear in court."
