Durham head teacher Anne Lakey denies boy sex charges

Anne Lakey, of Stanley, County Durham, is charged with eight offences including gross indecency and sexually assaulting a boy under 16. Appearing at Consett Magistrates' Court, the 54-year-old indicated she would deny the charges. She was granted unconditional bail and will appear at Durham Crown Court on 28 January. The charges do not relate to a pupil at a school where she worked. Ms Lakey, is the chief executive of the Durham Federation of Schools, and was praised for her "inspirational leadership" when she oversaw major GCSE result improvements. She has been suspended from work. She is accused of four counts of indecent assault, two counts of gross indecency and two of incitement to commit gross indecency. Durham Federation of Schools includes Durham Community Business College, in Ushaw Moor, and Fyndoune Community College, in Sacriston. |
