Public Enemy's Flavor Flav was reportedly arrested for speeding and driving with a suspended licence, but was released so he could attend his mother's funeral. The rapper, whose real name is William Drayton, was stopped on 9 January at 9.30am, according to a statement by New York police, Billboard reports. Valley Stream troopers pulled over a black Hyundai for driving 79mph in a 55mph zone. Drayton had 16 suspensions on his licence. The police statement also says that that he was "found to possess a small amount of marihuana [sic]". Chuck D's sideman in Public Enemy was arrested for traffic violations, unlicensed operation of a vehicle and unlawful possession of marijuana, but was released with orders to appear for arraignment. The rapper's mother, Anna Drayton, died on 31 December. "Hey everybody I just lost my mother Anna Drayton this morning new years eve she passed away and I'm gonna miss her," the rapper tweeted. "She lived a good life." This isn't the first time Flavor Flav has had run-ins with the law. He was arrested on robbery and burglary charges when he was in high school. In 1991, he pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend and served 30 days in jail. Two years later, he was imprisoned for 90 days after shooting at his neighbour. The rapper spent nine weeks in prison in 2002 for multiple driving and probation offences and he was arrested in 2011 over assorted outstanding driving offences.
