Clarencefield woman dies after vehicle hits horses Ruthwell woman Christina Kelly killed in horse and vehicle crash

A horse rider has died and another has been seriously injured in a road crash in Dumfriesshire. Police have named a woman who died following a crash between an Isuzu pick-up and two women walking horses on the B725 in Dumfries and Galloway.
The two women were walking horses along a country road when they were involved in a collision with an Isuzu pick-up. Christina Kelly, 58, from Ruthwell, was killed as result of the collision at about 17:10 on Thursday.
The crash happened on the B725 between the villages of Clarencefield and Bankend at about 17:15 on Thursday. She was one of two women struck by a blue Isuzu pick-up near Clarencefield.
Emergency services were sent to the scene but one woman, from the Clarencefield area, died of her injuries. Ms Kelly was taken to Dumfries Infirmary for treatment but died later. A 29-year-old woman remains in hospital in a serious condition.
The other casualty - who is also local - is being treated in Dumfries Infirmary where her condition was described as serious but stable. The 53-year-old driver of the Isuzu was uninjured in the collision.
Both of the horses involved died. Both horses died as a result of the accident and the road was closed for almost seven hours.
The road was closed for almost seven hours for accident investigation work. Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision or witnessed the pedestrians or vehicle prior to the incident.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.
