King Juan Carlos's daughter Princess Cristina is innocent, says Spanish PM

Spain's prime minister says he believes Princess Cristina, daughter of King Juan Carlos, is innocent less than three weeks before she is due to testify in court as a suspect in an investigation of tax fraud and money laundering that has tarnished the reputation of the royal family. Mariano Rajoy made the declaration late on Monday in an interview on the Antena 3 television network. Cristina is to be questioned by a judge investigating her business partnership with her husband Inaki Urdangarin in a firm called Aizoon. Rajoy said he is "convinced of the innocence of the princess" and that she should not renounce her title. Urdangarin is under investigation for allegedly channelling funds to Aizoon from his non-profit foundation that received millions of pounds in public contracts. |
