The incident happened at the Tredegar Park roundabout at about 11:45 GMT.
Gwent Police were called to the scene and said that all the children on-board the coach and the driver of the lorry were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
A spokesman for the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport said 25 children were admitted to the A&E department minor injuries, ranging from shock to bumps.
He said that one adult and one child had been admitted on spinal boards while a further 28 uninjured children were also taken to hospital along with parents and teachers.
