Version 0 of 1.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono joined thousands of Indonesian migrant workers abroad and at home on Tuesday in expressing outrage at the alleged torture of an Indonesian maid by her Hong Kong employer. In his first publicized comments on the case, Mr. Yudhoyono insisted that “the law will be upheld” during a phone call with the maid, Erwiana Sulistyaningsih. Ms. Erwiana, 23, returned to Indonesia this month and is being treated at a hospital in the central Java town of Sragen for physical abuse. Mr. Yudhoyono’s comments came a day after the police in Hong Kong arrested a 44-year-old woman in connection with the alleged abuse of Ms. Erwiana. On Sunday, thousands of foreign domestic workers rallied in support of her in the city.
