Blood found in a lift at a Metrolink station in Manchester is human, police have said.
Police were called following reports of blood found at Withington Station, Princess Parkway, at 20:30 GMT on Tuesday. Trams are not stopping at the station.
A force spokesman said they traced a man who suffered a burst blood vessel in his leg at Withington Station.
Following inquiries, a man was seen on CCTV holding bags with fluid dripping from it.
They were called to the station in Princess Parkway at 20:30 GMT on Tuesday after blood was found in a lift.
Crime scene investigators tested the liquid and confirmed it was blood.
The Metrolink station, which had been closed during the investigation, is now re-open and trams are stopping there.
They are now trying to establish whether the blood is human or animal.
Det Supt Emily Higham said: "There will be disruption to this morning's Metrolink service at Princess Parkway, but we need to carry out further investigation at the scene to establish whether anything suspicious has taken place.
"We are now looking to find the man who was holding the bag and speak to him.
"While we continue to work at the scene, trams will not be stopping at the station so I would advise people to make alternative arrangements for their morning travel."
