Aberystwyth students move ahead of high tides Flood warnings over high tides threat to Welsh coast

Up to 600 students are being moved from their seafront rooms in Aberystwyth as high tides and wind are forecast. Communities along the Welsh coast have been warned of the threat of more flooding as high tides and strong winds combine.
Natural Resources Wales (NRW) say high tides combined with very strong winds will create a high risk of coastal flooding on Friday and Saturday. Conditions could be as bad as early January when sea defences were breached hitting homes and businesses, said Natural Resources Wales (NRW).
Milford Haven, Aberystwyth, Holyhead and Llandudno will experience some of the highest tides of the year. Up to 600 students are being moved from their seafront rooms in Aberystwyth as a precaution.
Students in Aberystwyth have to leave their properties by 16:00 GMT on Friday. NRW said flood warnings are expected along the entire Welsh coast.
After new year storms battered the town's promenade causing severe damage, the university has also cancelled lectures to ensure people are safe. On Friday afternoon, one flood warning and six flood alerts were in place.
Meanwhile, a car has overturned in snowy conditions in Denbighshire. The incident happened at the Horseshoe Pass at Llangollen, Denbighshire on Friday morning.
NRW said high tides and very strong winds would create a high risk of coastal flooding on Friday and Saturday.

"The coastal storm surge is not currently expected to be as severe as at the beginning of January. However, we are advising people to be precautionary and be prepared in case the situation deteriorates.
"We strongly advise people to stay clear of promenades and sea fronts as they could be swept away by large waves or hit by debris.
