Speaking outside court after the verdict, Det Ch Insp Alistair McFarlane, who led the investigation, said the case had been "harrowing for the family".
"This has been a horrible crime, it's been terrible to investigate and Lewis Dale is going to go to prison for quite a long time.
"Although Lewis Dale has, ultimately, been brought to justice, it has brought no satisfaction to me.
"I really feel for the family as they continue to come to terms with what has happened."
