A worker at the Red Lion pub said there was lots of police activity in area and they believed an incident room was being set up at the village hall.
Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed via Twitter that the force was involved in a multi-agency search for a missing kayaker in the river between Llangynidr and Crickhowell.
The bridges over the Usk at Llangynidr and Crickhowell are reportedly closed as the search continues.
