A man has been charged with the murder of his 61-year-old father and 82-year-old grandmother after their bodies were found at a house on North Tyneside.
Northumbria Police were called to a report of a man running in the road on Front Street in Benton and causing a disturbance at 21:15 GMT on Tuesday. The bodies of Ray Patterson and Clara Patterson were found at the detached house in Front Street, Benton, after reports of a man causing a disturbance.
The two bodies were found later by officers in a house nearby. Glen Patterson, 25, also of Front Street, Benton, was arrested at the scene at about 21:15 GMT on Tuesday.
The arrested 25-year-old man, who police said was believed to have known the man and woman, remains in custody. He is due to appear before North Tyneside magistrates on Wednesday.
Det Ch Insp Paul Young said the force wanted "anyone who saw or heard anything in Front Street on Tuesday night to get in touch with us as soon as possible". The results of post-mortem examinations are due later.
