Joanna Dennehy and helpers in ditch murders pre-sentence hearing Joanna Dennehy 'not sorry' for Cambridgeshire ditch murders
(about 4 hours later)
A "sadistic spree killer" who admitted murdering three men and dumping the bodies in ditches has appeared in court for a pre-sentencing hearing. A woman who killed three men and stabbed two more has told a court she was "sorry" for the attempted murders but "not sorry for the murders".
Joanna Dennehy, from Peterborough, and three men will be sentenced at the Old Bailey next week. Joanna Dennehy, from Peterborough, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court with three men for a pre-sentencing hearing.
Dennehy, 31, admitted three murders and two attempted murders on 18 November. The 31-year-old, who dumped the three men's bodies in ditches in the Cambridgeshire Fens, made the outburst while being led from the dock.
She is appearing again at Cambridge Crown Court with the three men who helped her, Gary Stretch, 47, Leslie Layton, 37, and Robert Moore, 55. All four will be sentenced at the Old Bailey next week.
Dennehy murdered three men in Cambridgeshire and tried to kill two others in Hereford. Dennehy pleaded guilty to murdering three men in Cambridgeshire and attempting to kill two others in Hereford in November.
Stretch and Layton denied charges against them but were convicted of helping Dennehy dispose of bodies during her 12-day spree of violence. She appeared again at Cambridge Crown Court with accomplices Gary Stretch, 47, Leslie Layton, 37, and Robert Moore, 55.
Stretch was found guilty of two attempted murders and Layton of perverting the course of justice and of preventing lawful burials. The sentencing hearing was told Dennehy murdered three men she knew - Lukasz Slabozewski, John Chapman and Kevin Lee - before attacking two strangers while on the run in Hereford.
Two survivors Her barrister Nigel Lickley QC said she maintained that none of the murders were sexually motivated and she was not in a relationship with any of the men at the time, apart from one brief occasion with Mr Lee.
At a hearing on 19 December, Moore admitted assisting an offender. He also said Dennehy wanted it to be known that Mr Lee's body - found dumped in a ditch with his buttocks exposed - was not left in that position to humiliate or embarrass him, it was simply found that way.
Mr Justice Spencer on Friday said he would not sentence the four but the court would hear the prosecution case and mitigation from the defence ahead of sentencing at the Old Bailey. He added that Dennehy was "disgusted" at herself for attacking two complete strangers in Hereford.
After Dennehy murdered three men in the Peterborough area, Stretch drove Dennehy to Hereford where he found two men for her to stab, the court heard. Sentencing was adjourned till later this month at the Old Bailey.
Stretch, who is 7ft 3in (2.2m), was convicted of attempted murder over these two attacks.
Moore, of Belvoir Way, Peterborough, had already admitted assisting Dennehy.
Lukasz Slabozewski, John Chapman and Kevin Lee were all stabbed to death in March last year by Dennehy.
They were men she knew - a friend, her housemate and her landlord. Their bodies were dumped in ditches on farmland near Peterborough.
In Hereford she attempted to kill dog walkers Robin Bereza and John Rogers, who both survived.
