Teenager found dead in alleyway in Oldham

A 15-year-old boy has been found dead in an alleyway in Oldham.

Emergency services were called to Ripponden Road, Moorside, after a passer-by saw him lying on the ground.

Greater Manchester Police said they were treating the death of the teenager as "unexplained".

Ch Supt Chris Sykes said: "The death of this young man will be a big shock to the community and we have launched an investigation to find out the full circumstances of what happened."

He added: "While there is nothing at this stage to suggest any wrongdoing, we cannot rule out any third-party involvement."

Ch Supt Sykes urged anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious to contact police.

Paramedics from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) arrived at the scene at about 07:50 GMT and police were called shortly afterwards.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place to establish the cause of the teenager's death.
