Landslip between Chesterfield and Sheffield partly shuts rail line

Rail services between Nottingham and Sheffield are facing disruption due to a landslip.

Network Rail said an embankment between Chesterfield and Sheffield had been moving slowly after bad weather in January and was now damaging the track.

Part of the line will be shut for up to six weeks while repair work is carried out.

Buses will replace Northern Rail trains between Sheffield and Chesterfield while work takes place.

Passengers can then use East Midlands Trains services between Chesterfield and Nottingham, which will call additionally at Langley Mill.

East Midlands Trains services from Nottingham to Sheffield are likely to face delays of up to 20 minutes.

Phil Verster, from Network Rail, said: "This decision has been taken to protect the safety of everyone who uses and works on the railway.

"We thank passengers and our freight customers for their patience as we deal with this situation. The line will fully reopen as quickly as it is safe to do so."
