Two women have been rescued after becoming stuck in mud off the north Devon coast.

The Croyde and Instow inshore rescue teams were called out following reports that one woman was stuck at Crow Point near Appledore at about 15:30 GMT.

When they arrived they found a police officer had used a rope to rescue the stricken woman and a friend who went to her aid and also became stuck.

An ambulance took the women to hospital as a precaution in case of shock.

An air ambulance had also been sent to the scene, according to Swansea coastguards, who co-ordinated the rescue.
